The target spec, plainly
TikTok's standard profile picture size is 200x200 pixels. That's the floor for a clean, non-blurry result - TikTok's technical minimum is even smaller, around 20x20px, but that number is a technical limit, not a usable target; an image that small holds essentially no detail. For a photo or logo that still looks sharp when someone taps into your profile or views it on a larger screen, resize up to at least 400x400, and 1000x1000 if your source image supports it without visible quality loss.
The part a straight resize usually gets wrong
TikTok displays the image inside a circular frame everywhere it appears - comments, the For You Page overlay, your profile header. If you resize a rectangular or non-square source photo without cropping it to match that circle first, you end up with one of two problems: the image gets squished into a square (distorting faces and logos), or it gets stretched to fill the frame unevenly. A proper resize means cropping to a square first, centered on whatever matters most in the image, then scaling to the target pixel size - not just forcing the original aspect ratio to fit.
Where to center the crop
Since the final display is a circle, anything sitting in the corners of your square crop effectively disappears. When resizing a photo of a face, center the eyes and nose in the middle third of the frame rather than the literal geometric center of the original photo - most portrait photos have the subject slightly off-center, and TikTok's circular crop will punish that more than a square platform would.
